JOB SUMMARY

The George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida, seeks
applications and nominations for the position of Chair for
Acquisitions and Collections Services. Reporting to the Associate Dean
of Scholarly Resources & Services, the Chair of Acquisitions and
Collections Services is a tenure track library faculty position. The
department’s primary responsibilities are acquiring, licensing,
managing, and providing access to a variety of print and online
resources. The Chair oversees management of a twelve million dollar
materials budget. The Chair for Acquisitions and Collections Services
is responsible for the efficient management of these operations and
for the coordination and development of staff committed to continual
workflow improvement. The Chair directs sixteen faculty and staff
divided into areas of operations, taking a leadership role in setting
goals and priorities; developing projects; allocating and managing
material budgets; organizing staffing; and developing new and
efficient workflows. In addition, the Chair serves as Collections
Coordinator, assisting the Associate Dean of Scholarly Resources &
Services by coordinating collection activities and budget management
across the Smathers Libraries and Health Science Center Libraries.

As Collections Coordinator, the Chair integrates acquisitions
activities and practices to comply with the Libraries’ objectives for
content management and collaboration with library consortia. The
department initiates and manages a variety of Use-Driven Acquisition
plans (i.e., Demand-Driven Acquisitions, Patron-Driven Acquisitions,
and Evidence-Based Acquisitions) that balance traditional Just in Case
firm order selection with innovative Just in Time acquisition methods.
The Chair works with subject specialists to formulate and synthesize
collection goals, objectives, and priorities that support instruction
and research across multiple subject disciplines.

The Chair of Acquisitions and Collections Services leads the
department in implementing best practices. The Chair collaborates with
colleagues to achieve department goals and to establish Library
policies and procedures requiring wide consultation throughout the
Libraries. The ability to successfully delegate significant
responsibilities to project groups is essential. This position is a
key member of the Libraries’ management team, playing an essential
role in ensuring organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and
development of policies for library operations that are attentive to
users’ research and access needs.

The successful candidate will pursue research, engage in scholarship
and creative activities that generate impact nationally and
internationally, including publications, presentations, and grants; as
well as professional service activities that meet library-wide tenure
and promotion criteria for distinction.

The Chair will include individuals of diverse backgrounds,
experiences, races, ethnicities, genders, and perspectives in work
activities to support all students and faculty and foster excellence
in a diverse and global society.
