Hi Joe,

in an open access world the task of libraries is to finance and disseminate
the publication output (especially journal articles) of their institutions
(universities, research institutions). Libraries are doing the publication
and research data management in repositories and/or CRIS systems and take
care for the quality, visibility and reuse of the data. Libraries will
develop more competences to normalise, enrich and analyse publication and
research metadata and will work together closer with research
administration departments and academics of their institutions. Of course
some traditional tasks will be there as well, but the ressources have to be
shifted in this direction to make academic libraries more sustainable in a
world, in which SciHub, social media and innovative discovery tools are the
means to get academic information in form of journal articles.

Best,

Dirk
